We are often asked 'What is costume jewellery?'

The definition of costume jewellery is jewellery made from non-precious materials such as goldtone or gold-plated, silvertone or silver-plated, silver wire, resin, beads, pearlesque, plastics, wood, sequins and leather.

This excludes jewellery made from all precious metals, such as gold and silver, precious or semi-precious gems or stones such as swarovski crystals, natural and cultured pearls. 

Costume jewellery is jewellery made to look more expensive than it actually is.
